Club Information
The Club
Membership is open to all area students from kindergarten through eighth grade. All members will be taught the fundamentals of folk style wrestling through simple instruction and repetition. Our primary goal is to feed the high school program with kids that have a love for the sport and have mastered the basic wrestling skills. During practice we will provide a learning atmosphere and develop team camaraderie. We will minimize the focus on winning, while stressing technique, effort, and sportsmanship.
Every wrestler at this age who gives their best effort and displays good sportsmanship will be steps closer to realizing the overall goal of being on the coveted high school team.
We have formed a strong partnership with the high school coaching staff in order to help assure that the skills taught at this level provide the necessary foundation for long term success at the high school level.
Originally the club had to endure late night practices due to a lack of facilities. With a huge effort by many people, Pat Collins spearheaded the effort to build a building for the youth wrestling program. The whole Glenwood wrestling community will be forever thankful for the many hours of work, along with donations of materials and countless hours of labor by Glenwood wrestling fans. Our wrestling club is a perfect example of what can be accomplished when no one is concerned about who gets the credit. Many coaches, parents and board members are absolutely committed to the area youth and the Glenwood wrestling.
If your young athlete would like to join this challenging and exciting sport, while learning to set goals and build self confidence, contact any board member.
